Chile Reinstates Compulsory Voting

In December, the Chilean Chamber of Deputies voted overwhelmingly to restore the system of compulsory voting that was abandoned in 2012. The new law will eliminate voter registration and put everyone on the rolls automatically. "We trust that the equal participation of all will strengthen democracy,” said Chamber of Deputies member Joanna Pérez.
